Beyond the internship: Shifting the conversation with Jennifer Kim

I have always been committed to seeking out new experiences and seizing every opportunity for growth. Whether opportunities come through professional advancements, personal growth or new connections, I believe they play a crucial part in shaping the path to achieving my aspirations.

A pivotal moment for me was deciding to begin my college journey in South Korea. Despite the challenges of balancing my first semester abroad, I embraced this unique opportunity for both personal and academic growth. The five months I spent there required me to quickly adapt to new environments and navigate unfamiliar situations. My experience in South Korea ultimately led me to lifelong memories, friends and most importantly, a renewed sense of self.

I spent the next three and a half years at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), reinforcing this invaluable lesson of embracing unique experiences and making the most of every opportunity for growth. UT provided me with the space to explore a multitude of interests and take a variety of different classes to discover what I enjoyed learning. Like my time in South Korea, I refused to limit my experiences and continued to push myself out of my comfort zone.

From taking courses relating to animal behavior to software design, I embraced diverse fields of study and engaged in various roles including volunteering at a children’s hospital, working as an IT associate and serving as a research assistant. Through these explorations, I learned that my true interests lay within analytical and technical fields. Here, I find constant challenge and growth that ultimately betters my abilities and skills.

Now, as a People Analytics intern at Sabre, I am grateful for the journey that has brought me here. This internship has been a transformative experience, allowing me to delve into analytics, challenge my assumptions and gain valuable insights into the business.

Entering new phases – whether it’s a career, school or life transition – can often come with a lot of uncertainty and self-doubt. You may never know what you are capable of unless you take the leap and try.
