Generating the future. How Future GenAI Workshop showcases the strengths of Sabre x Google partnership

An intense year just came to an end. It was a time filled with our own events, collaborations, and conference attendance. As we reflect on the past months, one key moment stands out – the transition between the third and fourth quarters, when Sabre Poland partnered with Google to organise a special event focused on the year’s key tech: the Future GenAI Workshop.

The Workshop was a three-day series of meetings and hands-on sessions focused on of AI: its implementation, utilisation, and practical applications. The idea was driven by the growing importance of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) for IT professionals. Given Sabre’s key partnership with Google and the scale of AI-focused teams in both companies, a joint workshop exploring advanced AI technologies and their real-world uses was a natural step.

Sabre and Google teams wanted to create a platform which would enable their experts to exchange knowledge and build competencies to truly accelerate innovation – said Cezary Żminkowski, VP Software Engineering, Sabre Poland. The workshop model, where participants not only dive into theory, but also apply it in practice and face real challenges, is very particular and genuinely fits Sabre and Google’s approach to learning – he added.

The event attracted over 350 participants coming from many countries, including Poland, the US, UK and Ukraine, which just shows its international nature and exchange of experiences on a global level.

Themes and outcomes

Google Gemini, a flagship large language model from Google, has been the focus of extensive discussion. The conversation also covered the evolution of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services in relation to AI applications, including tools such as Gemini Code Assist, Cloud Assist, Gemini for Looker, BigQuery and Databases. Attendees explored cutting-edge AI tools like GraphRAG, LangChain, and LLMOps. Security issues of GenAI applications were also an important topic, which generated a lot of interest and lively discussion.

Gemini Code Assist is already being utilised by many Sabre developers. It’s known to enhance efficiency by simplifying code writing and automating tasks. Meanwhile, Vertex AI Agent Builder facilitates the rapid creation of AI-based assistants – said Sebastian Inglot, Principal Business Operations, Sabre Poland. – Recognizing its potential during the workshop, Sabre has integrated Vertex AI Agent Builder to support various operational areas. Both tools, tested and refined during the workshop, are now present in our processes and keep improving our efficiency – he added.

The workshop also included special sessions on the security and ethics of using large language models (LLMs). Discussions included issues of data privacy, potential risks associated with content generation and the responsibility in implementing AI technologies.

Many teams, one goal

The workshop’s success relies on collaboration across several teams, communities, and companies. Sabre, Google, and our partners all worked hard to make this happen. Four Sabre teams were involved (Platform Engineering team, ML/AI community, SDLC Modernization Community and GCP user community), and whether it’s tools and automation support to showcase SDLC practices, integrating machine learning into the application lifecycle or offering hands-on training with cloud solutions, each of them delivered its part.

The event’s partners, including Coforge, Infogain, and SoftServe, added significant value by enriching discussions with industry perspectives and trends, presenting real-world GenAI use cases, and sharing their experiences in practical AI implementations. Their organisational support was essential, encompassing logistics, resources, and promotional efforts. The event’s third day was primarily dedicated to their presentations, which highlighted achievements, experiences, and challenges in practical implementations.

Partnership worthy of the future

Organising this insightful event fits Sabre’s long-term plan, made possible through a partnership with Google, to advance Sabre Travel AI™. This technology sets new standards for artificial intelligence in the travel industry. Through Google Cloud, Sabre rapidly deploys machine learning models, fostering growth in current and future products.

This collaboration establishes a foundation for building new AI applications, shaping the future of travel together – said Łukasz Żmudziński, Director Software Engineering, Sabre Poland. – When it comes to this workshop, Sabre and Google carefully selected topics, experts and organised practical sessions to focus on real-life use cases of Sabre Travel AI™. Google brought its advanced expertise in Cloud and Artificial Intelligence, while Sabre concentrated on industry knowledge and applications of AI in the Travel sector – he added.

Sabre Travel AI™ equips airlines, agencies, and hotels with advanced tools to meet modern travellers’ needs and increase revenue. For instance, airlines use SabreMosaic™ to test real-time sales options, while agencies recommend high-potential hotel properties through Content Services for Lodging. Hoteliers benefit from tools like SynXis® Retail Studio™, offering personalised experiences.
