Thai Lion Air to expand with Sabre, the carrier’s first GDS partner

Thai-LionAir_boing737-sm SINGAPORE, 18 January, 2016 – Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR), the leading technology provider to the global travel industry has today announced that the inventory of Thai Lion Air is to become available to over 100,000 Sabre-connected travel agents in the Asia Pacific region. This is the first strategic distribution agreement that the Lion Group subsidiary has signed, choosing Sabre Travel Network Asia Pacific to drive growth from within the B2B channel. Thai Lion Air currently serves ten popular domestic routes from Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok, recently adding international flights to neighbouring Singapore. More routes to Asian hubs are planned, as with the new Kuala Lumpur service operated by partner, Malindo Air. “Bookings from Sabre-connected travel agents will help us to increase our frequency, while channelling demand for the new routes we have planned,” said Aswin Yangkirativorn, Chief Executive Officer of Thai Lion Air. “We are operating in a very competitive climate and appreciate that with Sabre, we have the opportunity to present the Thai Lion Air proposition in a way that differentiates our brand.” Travel agents will promote the free seat selection that Thai Lion Air offers passengers, together with an additional 15kgs of baggage allowance for designated sports equipment. “Thai Lion Air further expands our extensive portfolio of low cost Asia Pacific airlines,” said Hans Belle, Sabre Travel Network Asia Pacific vice president for supplier commerce and strategic partnerships. “We look forward to supporting Thai Lion Air, a tactical carrier targeting very specific growth markets, as it develops its regional network and commercial model.  We are confident that Thai Lion Air will quickly realise the benefit of providing access to its inventory via the leading Sabre channel.”
